The Cross
While in Easter Service a couple of weeks ago, I started to think about the cross and what it means. So, what do you think when you see a cross? Do you just see an item a lot of people wear around their neck? I hear people talk about that necklace with a cross. How pretty it is. But do you look at it and realize that a man was hung on the cross as a punishment by the Romans?
As a Christian what do you see? Do you see the cross on which Jesus hung? He allowed the Romans to put him on that Cross to be the perfect sacrifice for our sins. He paid a debt that he did not owe. He paid so we do not have to. He paid the debt we should have paid. So now we do not have to worry about the debt collector coming to collect.
He paid our sin debt. Prior to this God demanded a sin sacrifice. Jesus became the ultimate sin sacrifice. The perfect lamb. He laid down his life to pay our debt, so when the debt collector comes to balance the ledger, he will see your column marked “Paid in full”.
As Christians, we do not worry about the debt because Jesus allowed himself to be nailed on that Cross to pay our debt. Because of the Cross there is no debt. How do you see the Cross now?
