Psalm 23
Every Spring, I look forward to seeing the Cardinal family who Spring and Summer with us. I’d like to believe that this Husband and Wife team are the same birds that visit us every year. They have a little nest in a Palmetto tree in our backyard. Sometimes they travel in threes but always as a pair. Every spring, I get a little nervous that they will not visit this spring. Once again, I was feeling a bit of angst thinking that surely this Spring they found a better home for themselves. Honestly, my husband and I do zero to accommodate this beautiful couple, who just by being themselves bring me great joy.
Seeking a fresh word from the Word, Jesus, I was sitting out back on my deck with the pollen, thick like snow and the honking horns in the near distance, waiting for His divine words for his beautiful daughters…

Psalm 23,
I know that you may have this scripture memorized, but let’s look at the text like an old piece of jewelry on your finger that happens to catch the light in a new beautiful way.
“The Lord is my Sheppard, I shall not want. He makes me to lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside the still waters. He restores my soul. He leads me in the path of righteousness for His namesake. Yay, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me, your rod and your staff they comfort me. You prepare a table for me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup runs over. Surely goodness and mercy will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever. “
David gives the Lord respect and thanksgiving in this psalm as he speaks about his relationship with the Lord. Did you notice that David’s pronoun usage of God changes? David started out referring to God as He, someone to be talked about and then David changes God‘s pronoun to someone being spoken to! This happens for many when things get scary, not just being tired and thirsty. The Lord is always near, but we see him or tend to notice him more when we are walking through the scary tough times. Our spiritual eyes are open to him more clearly as our need for him intensifies! Feeling his staff guides us, gives us that peace of mind that he is always there. His goodness never ends for us. The table prepared for us. God honoring us, restoring us, in the presence of our enemies! His goodness and mercy follow us all the days of our lives, and we will dwell in the house of the Lord forever! Amen !!
